01A sportsbook bolted onto a casino, and it shows

Rooster Bet is a casino brand first. The sportsbook is a proper product rather than an afterthought, but its shape gives away the priorities: the market depth follows the northern-hemisphere calendar, and the Australian codes are present and correctly structured rather than headline features. That is worth knowing before you open an account expecting an AFL-first experience.

The numbers make the point. When I counted live market trees, football was carrying 927, table tennis 301, tennis 186, ice hockey 58, cricket 55, MMA 50, boxing 50 and basketball 44. Rugby League showed 3, Rugby Union 1 and Aussie Rules 2 — those are match counts on a given day rather than a measure of how well each match is priced, and the Australian codes are properly built out once a round is actually on. But the ordering tells you where the liquidity lives.

Live market counts observed on the Rooster Bet sportsbook
SportLive marketsDepth for an Australian bettor
Football (soccer)927Deepest book on the site by a wide margin
Table tennis301Round-the-clock filler, thin markets
Tennis186Strong, especially through the Australian summer
Cricket55Good — internationals and franchise T20 both covered
Basketball44NBA-led; NBL present but shallower
MMA / boxing50 / 50Solid outright and method markets
Rugby League3NRL fixtures priced, limited exotics
Aussie Rules2AFL head-to-head and lines; fewer player props

Forty-plus sports are listed in total, running from the obvious down to chess, darts, floorball, bandy, speedway, politics and a "TV shows and movies" novelty tree. There is also a full e-sports section with its own live tab. The full context for how the sportsbook sits inside the wider product is in the 2026 Rooster Bet overview.

02Odds formats and reading the price

Six odds formats are selectable from the account menu, which is more than most books bother with. Australians read decimal, so switch to European and leave it there — the default can land on something else depending on how the site guesses your locale.

The same price expressed six ways at Rooster Bet
FormatDisplayed asWhat it means
European (decimal)1.95A$10 returns A$19.50 including stake — the Australian standard
British (fractional)19/20Win A$9.50 profit on a A$10 stake
Hong Kong0.95Profit per unit staked, stake excluded
American−105Stake A$105 to win A$100
Indonesian−1.05Negative form of the American logic, scaled to units
Malaysian0.95Positive below evens, negative above

1.95 on both sides of a two-way market is a 2.6% margin, which is competitive without being remarkable. Where a book earns or loses your business is on the second and third tier — the player props, the corners, the alternate lines — and there the margin widens considerably. Shop the main lines here and treat the exotics as entertainment priced accordingly.

03Where each sport sits on liquidity and pricing

Two axes decide whether a market is worth your money: how much liquidity sits behind it, and how sharp the price is relative to the closing line. Plotted against each other, the Rooster Bet book falls out roughly like this.

Price quality Football Tennis Cricket NBA NRL AFL Table tennis E-sports Politics
Thin liquidityDeep liquidity

Football and tennis sit top-right: deep books, tight prices, plenty of in-play. Cricket does well through the Big Bash and international windows. AFL and NRL land mid-left — the head-to-head and line markets are priced sensibly, but the prop trees you would get from an Australian-licensed corporate bookmaker are not there. Table tennis has huge volume and loose pricing, which is a warning rather than an opportunity for most punters. Politics markets are thin and slow to update.

04Live betting and the prediction markets product

The Live tab prices matches in play with a running market tree and a bet-slip that revalidates before acceptance. Latency is the deciding factor for in-play, and a browser on a phone over a 4G connection will always be a step behind a desktop on fixed-line broadband. I measured the difference and wrote it up under in-play betting on a phone.

The genuinely unusual product is Predictions. Instead of odds, outcomes are priced as percentages and you take a yes or no position — 22% yes, 78% no, and so on. It runs under its own Prediction Rules document, separate from the Sportsbook Rules, and the market set is small compared with the main book. For anyone who has used a prediction exchange before, the mental model transfers directly; for anyone who has not, read the rules before the first position, because settlement criteria are stricter than a sportsbook's.

Alongside the main book there is a Sports Promotions tab, plus Results and Schedule pages that are genuinely useful for checking settlement rather than being decorative. Winnings from a settled slip move to the withdrawable balance under the same rules as casino winnings, and the timings for that are set out under cashing out a winning bet slip.

05What a bet actually costs at these margins

Margin compounds, and multi-leg bets compound it fastest. Here is what the house holds back on a A$100 stake as legs are added at a typical 2.6% single-market margin.

A$2.60single leg
A$5.13two legs
A$7.60three legs
A$10.00four legs
A$12.34five legs

A five-leg multi at these prices gives away roughly 12% of your stake in expectation before a single result has landed. That is the honest arithmetic behind every "same game multi" promotion in the market, here or anywhere else. Multis are entertainment products; singles on the main line are where a disciplined bettor operates.

Sports bonuses have their own rules

The sportsbook runs its own promotions tab, and sports offers are governed by the operator's bonus policy rather than the casino welcome package. Read the minimum odds and qualifying-market conditions on each offer separately — a casino bonus and a sports bonus at Rooster Bet are not interchangeable.

06The regulatory position for Australian bettors

Sports wagering and online casino play sit in different places under Australian law. Licensed Australian corporate bookmakers may legally offer pre-match and, within limits, telephone in-play wagering to residents. Rooster Bet is not one of them: the operator is Novatrix SRL of Costa Rica, licensed by the Tobique Gaming Commission, with no ACMA authorisation. Under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 it may not lawfully offer its casino product to people in Australia, and its sportsbook operates outside the Australian licensing framework too.

In practical terms that means no Australian dispute resolution, no local complaints pathway and no protection from the domain blocking the ACMA applies to offshore operators. It also means BetStop, the national self-exclusion register, does not reach this operator — registering with BetStop blocks Australian-licensed services, not offshore ones. If self-exclusion matters to you, that gap is important and you should use the operator's own closure process as well.

07Frequently asked questions

Does Rooster Bet cover the AFL and NRL?

Yes. Aussie Rules and Rugby League both have their own market trees with head-to-head, line and totals pricing. Depth is thinner than an Australian-licensed corporate bookmaker would offer, particularly on player props and exotics.

Can I bet in play?

Yes, there is a dedicated Live tab with in-running prices across the major sports. Bet acceptance revalidates the price before confirming, so expect the occasional rejection when a market moves during submission.

Which odds format should I use?

European — decimal odds such as 1.95 — which is what Australians read. Six formats are available in total: European, British, Hong Kong, American, Indonesian and Malaysian.

What are prediction markets?

A separate Rooster Bet product where outcomes are priced as a percentage chance and you take a yes or no position rather than backing at odds. It runs under its own Prediction Rules document, distinct from the sportsbook rules.

Do sports bets count toward the casino welcome bonus?

No. The welcome package is a casino offer with pokies weighted at 100% and other casino formats at 5%. Sports promotions are run separately under the sportsbook's own terms.

Is betting with Rooster Bet legal in Australia?

Rooster Bet is not licensed by the ACMA. Under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, offshore operators may not lawfully offer real-money online casino games to people in Australia, and the sportsbook sits outside the Australian licensing framework. The Act targets operators rather than individual bettors.

Are there e-sports markets?

Yes, e-sports has its own section with a live tab alongside the traditional sports. Coverage follows the major titles and tournaments rather than attempting exhaustive depth.

I have spent the past nine years testing offshore casinos from an Australian bank account — funding them, clearing wagering, filing withdrawals and timing how long the money really takes. Every figure on this site is copied from the operator’s own terms or measured during testing, never from a press release, and I say plainly when a rule works against the player.
